Research Projects

PhD thesis: Evolution and diversification of the halophytic genus Limonium (Plumbaginaceae) in East Mediterranean - The case of Crete (Greece).

Master thesis: Genetic diversity of the hybrid Origanum x intercedens Rech. in Crete.

Erasmus project: Phylogeny of the Mediterranean group of plants Limonium (Plumbaginaceae) in Crete – L. ocymifolium group.

Other projects during my Master:

  • Experimental approaches in studying the role of Virp1 protein to Nicotiana benthamiana during the plant infection by the viroid PSTVd (Potato spindle tuber viroid).
  • Studying the phenomenon of thermogenesis in Arum concinatum Schott under laboratory conditions.
  • Comparing the photosynthetic capacity of the Cretan endemic Phoenix theophrasti with those of Phoenix dactylifera, Phoenix canariensis and Chamaerops humilis in Crete.
  • DNA Barcoding: Molecular identification of three Lamiaceae species using 3-locus analysis (rbcL, matK, trnH – psbA).
  • The Flora of UoC (University of Crete): Taxonomic identification of flora species in the broad area of the University Campus.

Bachelor thesis: Contribution to the coastal flora of Voidokoilia cove and Yalova lagoon (Prefecture of Messinia-Peloponnese).
