Pre-Conference Workshop

A one-day workshop on Computational Methods in Macroevolutionary Analysis will run from 10:00 – 16:30 on Thursday 12th June. This will be led by Dan Rabosky, University of Michigan, U.S.A. The workshop will focus on Bayesian methods for studying the dynamics of speciation, extinction, and trait evolution on phylogenetic trees. The deadline for the receipt of applications is 28 Feb 2014.

The number of participants is limited to 25. The workshop will assume a basic level of competence in the R environment and comfort with command line programs. Furthermore, participants will need to work on their own laptops and bring suitable data sets (time calibrated phylogenies, possibly with trait data) for use during the workshop. To apply to attend the workshop, please send an application letter to Dan Rabosky (drabosky@umich.edu). The letter (PDF format; maximum one page) should indicate:

  • Your career stage (e.g., 3rd year PhD student)
  • Why are you interested in attending the workshop and how it relates to your research
  • Your previous experience in R and command line program environments
  • A brief description of the data you will bring to the workshop.

Detailed instructions about the workshop will be supplied to those selected to attend. Attending the workshop is free of charge.
