I take a great interest in many topics of biology, especially in diversity and evolution of plants. Furthermore, I am excited about understanding social action and interaction of human. For this reason, I decided to do my master’s thesis on an ethnobotanic subject with help of my supervisors Dr. Caroline Weckerle and Dr. Reto Nyffeler.
In my master thesis, I study the usage of masterwort (Peucedanum ostruthium (L.) W.D.J.KOCH) in the local community of the Saas-Tal (Valais). Masterwort is widely used in alpine regions including the production of “Schnaps” or the fumigation of rooms. With a vegetation survey and a phytochemical analysis, an investigation in distinction of morphology and chemistry of Peucedanum ostruthium over several altitude differences will be carried out. In addition, the locals will be interviewed about their traditional knowledge and their preferred gathering places of the plant.
